The Agilent/HP 346B noise source is the ideal companion to Agilent's noise figure solutions. Since it is broadband (10 MHz to 18 GHz), it eliminates the necessity for several sources at different frequency bands. The low SWR of the noise source reduces a major source of measurement uncertainty; reflections of test signals. The 346B's high ENR, low SWR, and variety of connectors make it a general-purpose noise source. Add special option H01 for high ENR (21 dB typical) to measure high noise figure devices, or option H42 for measuring Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS) low noise block converters.

Features

  • Frequency range: 10 MHz to 18 GHz
  • VSWR: < 1.3:1
  • Connectors: BNC (f) input bias / 3.5 mm (m)
  • Low SWR for reducing noise figure measurement uncertainty
  • Individually calibrated ENR values at specific frequencies

The 346B noise source produces noise output (power-on) when +28 V is applied to the BNC connector. When it is off, there is residual noise due to thermal agitation in the noise source (power-off). These two noise levels are used to measure the gain and added noise of the device under test, and consequently, its noise figure.

The Excess Noise Ratio (ENR) for each noise source has been measured at major frequencies and recorded on a label attached to the noise source. ENR references power-on to the noise power that exists at 290 Kelvin (17 °C). All models are provided with a BNC female connector for power input. The output connector is a male APC-3.5 on the standard noise sources.
