The 6012B series of DC power supplies take the place of multiple power supplies on your test bench by providing maximum power at a variety of operating points. They have ten-turn front panel pots to allow precise local control. These power supplies also may be connected in auto-parallel or series as part of a test system.

Greater one-box versatility with autoranging outputs

These single-output supplies can replace multiple units, saving rack space and reducing system cost and complexity.

  • Autoranging outputs provide maximum power at a variety of operating points
  • Overvoltage features protect DUTs quickly and automatically
  • Auto-parallel or auto-series connections enable greater output flexibility (requires 6030 Series GPIB unit)
  • Ten-turn pots for precise local control

Description

These power supplies are autoranging supplies. Autoranging allows the power supply to deliver full output power over a higher voltage and current combination than would be possible with a rectangular output characteristic (see figure 1-1). They use a 20k Hz pulse-width modulation circuit with power MOSFETs to provide the autoranging output characteristic with laboratory performance.

Output voltage and current are continuously indicated on two 3 ½ digit displays. Front-panel controls allow the user to set output voltage, current and Overvoltage Protection (OVP) trip levels. OVP protects the load by quickly and automatically interrupting energy transfer if a preset voltage trip level is exceeded. Push button switches allow the display to alternately show the programmed values of voltage and current or the overvoltage limit. LED indicators show the operating state of the unit (CV, CC, Unregulated and Overvoltage).

All connections are made to rear-panel screw-on terminals.

Output voltage can be locally or remotely sensed.

A six-position MODE switch located on the rear panel is used to change from front panel control to remote voltage or remote resistance control. See section 3 for a description of remote programming, remote sensing and several methods of multiple supply operation.

Either the positive or negative output terminal may be grounded or the output may be floated (including output voltage) up to ± 240 Vdc on the 6012B from chassis ground.

The power supply is fan cooled and is packaged in an Agilent Technologies System II-compatible modular that provides easy access for servicing. A thermostat shuts down the supply if an over-temperature condition occurs and resets automatically.

Keithley 2303 Power Supply 15 Volt 3 Amp

Rent me for $100 a month

The Model 2303 High Speed Power Supplies provide both voltage control and power consumption monitoring for automated testing of portable, battery-operated devices. These power supplies are optimized for testing battery-operated, wireless communication devices such as cellular phones that undergo substantial load changes for very short time intervals. These power supplies exhibit outstanding voltage stability during pulse load changes and can simultaneously measure load currents, even if they are short pulses. In addition, this family of power supplies can sink current and, thus, take on the characteristics of a discharged, rechargeable battery for testing chargers and charger-control circuitry.

    Applications

    • Development and testing of portable, battery-operated products, such as cellular and cordless telephones, mobile radios, and pagers.

    Features

    • Optimized for battery-powered device testing
    • Ultra-fast transient response to load changes
    • 5A continuous output
    • Pulse peak, average, and baseline current measurements
    • 100nA DC current sensitivity
    • 45W output (15V @ 3A, 9V @ 5A)
    • Sinks up to 2A

The Keithley 2303 High Speed power supply  can output up to +15V at up to 3A or +9V at up to 5A. Voltage can be set in 1mV steps, and current limit can be set in 100μA steps. Maximum power output is 45W. The power supply can also be used to sink current (up to 2A). As a sink (current polarity is negative), the power supply is dissipating power rather than sourcing it. Note that it can read back the output voltage (V meter) and current (I meter). Display resolution for voltage readback is 1mV.

    Current Readback Ranges

¿ Models 2303 Two ranges for current readback: 5A and 5mA. On the 5A range, display resolution is 100μA, and on the 5mA range, resolution is 0.1 μA.

The Keithley 2303 High Speed power supply also has a digital voltmeter (DVM) that is independent of the power supply circuit. The DVM can measure up to +20V (1mV resolution). When used with a pulsed load, the power supply can read back peak current, idle current, and average current. See Section 3 for details. A long integration (up to 60 seconds) function is provided to measure average current of a low frequency pulse (long period) or a series of pulses.

Keithley 2306 Dual Channel Battery Charger and Simulator

Rent me for $200 a month

The dual-channel Model 2306 Battery/Charger Simulator were designed specifically for development and test applications of portable, battery-operated products, such as cellular and cordless telephones, mobile radios, and pagers. These precision power supplies have ultrafast transient response so they can have output characteristics identical to actual batteries. These supplies employ a unique variable output resistance so the voltage output can emulate a battery's response (U.S. Patent No. 6,204,647). They provide stable voltage outputs, even when a device-under-test (DUT) makes the rapid transition from the standby (low current) state to the RF transmission (high current) state. In addition, they can monitor DUT power consumption by measuring both DC currents and pulse load currents. The Model 2306's battery-simulator channel can be programmed to operate like a discharged rechargeable battery, sinking current from a separate charger or from the Model 2306's charger-simulator channel.

    Features

    • Ultrafast response to transient load currents
    • Choice of single- or dual-channel supplies
    • Optimized for development and testing of battery-powered devices
    • Variable output resistance for simulating battery response (U.S. Patent No. 6,204,647)
    • Pulse peak, average, and baseline current measurements
    • 100nA DC current sensitivity
    • Current step measure function
    • Sink up to 3A
    • Open sense lead detection
    • Built-in digital voltmeter

    Typical Applications

    • Development and testing of portable, battery-operated products such as:
    • Cellular and cordless telephones
    • Mobile radios
    • Pagers

The Model 2306 battery-output channel is designed to simulate the output response of a battery. This capability, combined with its fast transient response, makes it possible to power the device during testing in exactly the same way as a battery powers the device during actual use. The output resistance of the battery channel can be programmed (with 10mΩ resolution) over the range from 0Ω to 1Ω so that the output resistance can be set to the same level as the output resistance of the battery that powers the device. Portable wireless devices make great demands on their battery power sources. The battery must source load currents that can jump virtually instantaneously from a standby current level (100¿300mA) to a full power RF transmission current level (1¿3A). In other words, the load current on the battery can increase rapidly by a factor of 700¿1000%. As a result, the battery voltage drops by an amount equal to the value of the current change multiplied by the battery¿s internal resistance. The Model 2306-VS enables test systems to duplicate this voltage drop by programming their output resistance to be equivalent to that of the battery that will power the device. This allows wireless device manufacturers to test their products under the same power conditions that they will encounter in actual use.

Instek Instrument's is announcing its new SPD-3606 DC Power Supply to the global market. The SPD-3606 provides 375W output power with three isolated outputs with dual range Power for CH1/CH2, highly efficient power conversion, low noise, high reliability, thorough protection design, and compact size. The Instek SPD-3606 establishes a new platform for GW Instek switching power supply product line.

Dual-Range Power CH1/CH2 of SPD-3606 offer dual-range output either at 30V/6A or 60V/3A per channel to accommodate broad applications in one unit. With auto Series/Parallel tracking operation, SPD-3606 is able to provide the master output at 30V/12A, 60V/6A, or 120V/3A. One SPD-3606 can cover three output types and a wide range of output voltage/current combinations. High Efficiency and High Power Density High power conversion efficiency lets SPD-3606 consume less energy and align with global environmental protection concerns. Besides, the high power density makes SPD-3606 weigh less than half and occupy much less space than a linear power supply at the same power rating.

Thorough Protection Design To avoid the damage over SPD-3606 and DUT caused by improper user operation, The SPD-3606 provides numerous protection features such as reverse polarity protection, OVP (Over Voltage Protection) and OTP (Over Temperature Protection). In case the wrong AC power is connected, SPD-3606 automatically selects 115V/230V source internally.

OHM LOADS INC. introduces the KWATT series, a comprehensive line of high power unregulated DC and AC power supplies for bench-top and rack-mount applications. The KWATT series is adjustable using a variable output voltage control dial, supplying a source of 0-1.3KW DC or 0-2KVA AC power in a single unit. The OLP24V ranges from 0-24VDC and 0-20VAC. The OLP75V ranges from 0-75VDC and 0-55VAC. The OLP175V ranges from 0-175VDC and 0-125VAC. The OLP350V ranges from 0-350VDC and 0-250VAC. The input ranges from 105-130VAC. All models feature over-current protection.

The front panels feature output DC/AC selection switch(es), a variable output voltage control dial (0-100%), DC and AC analog voltage and current meters and an AC power switch. The rear panels feature 3/8¿ bolt-type or five-way banana jack binding posts for output connections, a world standard IEC AC input connector, input/output panel fuses and/or output breakers. The floating output allows for positive and negative output application flexibility.  Maximum output ripple is 1.5% rms. All units are convection cooled except the OLP24V, which has a small 115VAC fan. All units can be run at full rated power from 0-40 °C, linearly derated to zero at 70 °C.  All these features are packaged in standard bench-top/19" rack-mount chassis (17.5"W x 8.75"H x 15"L).

Applications for the KWATT series include R and D testing, trouble-shooting, production testing, in-coming inspection and burn-in of transformers, motor drives, lamps, relays, actuators, servo controls, steppers, DC-DC converters, DC-AC inverters, power systems, magnets, amplifiers, etc.  Useful everywhere an extremely rugged, reliable and economical versatile DC and AC power supply is required.

The KWATT series is ideally suited for applications where tight regulation is not needed, but cost and reliability are important.  Since KWATT is unregulated it will not interact in any way with the loads connected to it.  Unlike most regulated supplies, KWATT is very RUGGED with a high overload specification and is forgiving during misuse.  The KWATT series is also very economical when compared to regulated power supplies or "in-house" built units.  When companies build their own "in-house" power supplies many associated costs are overlooked.  These "hidden" costs such as engineering and development time, manufacturing, documentation, trouble-shooting and maintenance, overhead, purchasing, etc. can make these "in-house" supplies very expensive and divert valuable time away from the company's main products.  KWATT has power for virtually every application covering most voltages and currents eliminating the need to build "in-house" supplies.

The KWATT series provides the user with an unparalleled amount of flexibility and ease of use.  Simply hook-up the load.
