Automated AC measurement with precision that is easy to use

The 5790A is a complete automated ac measurement standard designed for the most demanding calibration applications. It combines the accuracy you would expect from a thermal transfer standard with the ease-of-use of a digital multimeter. Absolute ac voltage measurement uncertainties are as low as ±24 ppm (one year, 23oC ±5oC). The 5790A is designed to meet the complete ac voltage and wideband verification requirements of the Fluke 5700A, 5500A and other calibrators, amplifiers like the 5725A and 5205A, and transfer standards and ac voltmeters.

The 5790A covers an alternating voltage range of 700 µV to 1000V, and a frequency range of 10 Hz to 1 MHz. A wideband voltage option extends frequency range to 30 MHz to meet the calibration requirements of Fluke 5700A, 5720A and 5100 Series Wideband Options.    The 5790A is also compatible with Fluke A40 and A40A Current Shunts, which permit you to make ac/dc current transfer measurements up to 20A. The 5790A may be used alone or as a transfer standard with an external dc source. In either case the normally tedious switching and calculations are performed automatically by the 5790A, and the resulting ac/dc difference is displayed directly on the easy-to-read vacuum fluorescent display.

Versatility that keeps you productive

When you first power up the 5790A, diagnostics verify the instrument's integrity. The variety of input connections allows you to use the one that best suits your application. There are four sets of input terminals on the 5790A, two Type-N connectors and two sets of five-way binding posts. One Type-N and one set of binding posts are dedicated to the ac measurement and transfer modes. AC or dc voltages may be applied to either input connection over the 5790's full range, allowing you to perform automated ac/dc transfer measurements. The 5790A determines automatically whether the applied voltage is ac or dc. The second Type-N input connection supports the optional wideband mode, and the second set of binding posts are designed for Fluke A40 Series Current Shunts. The input connection is selected with the touch of a key on the 5790A front panel. An LED indicates which selection is active.

Reference standard accuracy and stability, in one functionally versatile, easy to use solution

The Fluke 8508A is an 8.5-digit resolution instrument designed specifically for metrologists. With superior accuracy and stability over a wide range of measurements the 8508A is designed to serve as a versatile precision measurement tool for calibration laboratories that must meet increasingly stringent measurement uncertainty analysis requirements demanded by ISO 17025, as well as the need for increased productivity.

With the introduction of the 8508A, Fluke has created a new product category ? the reference multimeter ? specifically for metrology applications. The 8508A Reference Multimeter draws upon decades of Fluke expertise.

The 8508A features 8.5 digit resolution, exceptional linearity and extraordinarily low noise and stability, producing what are arguably the most accurate measurements to be had from any commercially available product today. That?s why stability must be treated with the same priority as accuracy. The 8508A demonstrates 365 day stability as low as 2.7 ppm, with a 24 hour stability of 0.5 ppm, ensuring that confidence in today?s measurement can be the same as it was yesterday or last year.

To achieve this frequently requires a complex array of instruments. The Fluke 8508A provides an extraordinarily broad range of measurement capability. This means you can undertake a wider range of applications, and perform most of your measurement requirements with a single instrument.

Voltage measurement

With DC and AC ranges from 200 mV to 1 kV, the 8508A covers all your voltage measurement needs. Full 8.5 digit resolution is available on all ranges to provide resolution down to 1 nV. Bandwidth for AC measurements extends to 1 MHz. Excellent linearity, coupled with Ratio measurement capability, means that the 8508A can replace Kelvin Varley dividers and AC/DC voltage transfer standards.

Current measurements

The 8508A features a remarkable new current measurement system. For the first time, resistance at the input is virtually zero. This means that measurements can be much less invasive.

Resistance measurement

With ranges from 2 Ω to 20 GΩ and resolution as low as 10 nΩ, the 8508A can truly be described as the ultimate resistance measurement system.

Keithley 2000-Scan Scanner Card

Keithley has designed three plug-in scanner cards for use with Model 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2010 DMMs. Simply by inserting the appropriate card in the option slot on the DMM?s back panel, users can create a multipoint test and measurement system that?s well suited to applications involving up to ten measurement points. Combining scan and measurement capabilities in a single instrument reduces the need for extra equipment, eliminates complexities of triggering, timing, and processing issues, and helps reduce test time significantly. Also, since the scanners were designed specifically to work with these DMMs, measurement integrity is assured. For larger ATE applications, the DMMs can be easily combined with Keithley?s 7000 Series switch matrices and cards for high-speed, high accuracy scanning and measurement.

Model 2000-SCAN Scanner Card

Superior measurement speed and integrity

In addition to the wide range of measurement functions and capabilities common to all Series 2000 DMMs, the Model 2001 has many other advantages for test system builders. While other DMMs may claim to offer 71⁄2-digit resolution, they typically must average multiple readings to achieve their specified resolution, which slows the reading rate significantly. In contrast, the Model 2001’s true 71⁄2-digit resolution is based on a 28-bit A-to-D converter, so no averaging is needed to discern smaller changes. This high resolution also provides greater dynamic range, so it’s possible to measure from 1µV to 20V on a single range and avoid range-shift errors.

Unique measurement capabilities

Unlike the Model 2000 or 2010, the Model 2001 offers the ability to make peak spikes measurements without the need for a separate oscilloscope. Its internal peak detector can catch 1µs spikes, such as power supply spikes and transients, AC line power surges, and short-duration drop outs on components, as well as up to 1MHz for repetitive signals. The Model 2001 can automatically display and store the highest value, or display the maximum and minimum values of spikes. Similarly, no oscilloscope is required to determine if the crest factor—the ratio of peak value to rms values—of an AC signal is acceptable to ensure measurement accuracy, because the Model 2001 measures AC crest factor directly. While some DMMs will calculate average AC from the RMS value, these calculations apply only to sine wave inputs. With the Model 2001, it’s easy to measure AC peak value, average, and true rms directly to characterize the signal completely. This capability is ideal for AC circuit design or test, and to verifying test voltages specified only in averages.

The Model 236 will source voltage from 100µV to 110V, and current from 100fA to 100mA. It can also measure voltage from 10µV to 110V and current from 10fA to 100mA.

Selectable Sweeps of Voltage and Current
The 236 can be programmed to perform source-measurements as a function of a stepped voltage or current. Voltage and current can be swept linearly, logarithmically, or pulsed. The START, STOP, STEP method of setting sweep parameters allows operators to become proficient at using the instrument very quickly. Sweep parameters may be appended (APPEND key) to obtain more complex test sequences.

What is an electrometer?

Essentially, an electrometer is a highly refined digital multimeter (DMM). Electrometers can be used for virtually any measurement task that a conventional DMM can and offer the advantages of very high input resistance when used as voltmeters, and ultra-low current sensitivity with low voltage burden when used as ammeters. Electrometers are superior to DMMs by three to eight orders of magnitude in these respects. That makes them the instruments of choice for measuring voltages with high source impedance or currents with low source impedance (i.e., signals from non-ideal sources). Electrometers can also measure charge directly.

The Power of Three Instruments in One

The tightly coupled nature of a SourceMeter instrument provides many advantages over separate instruments. For example, it provides faster test times by reducing GPIB traffic and simplifies the remote programming interface. It also protects the device under test from damage due to accidental overloads, thermal runaway, etc. Both the current and voltage source are programmable with readback to help maximize device measurement integrity. If the readback reaches a programmed compliance limit, then the source is clamped at the limit, providing fault protection.

Keithley?s SourceMeter family is designed specifically for test applications that demand tightly coupled sourcing and measurement. All SourceMeter models provide precision voltage and current sourcing as well as measurement capabilities. Each SourceMeter instrument is both a highly stable DC power source and a true instrument-grade 51⁄2-digit multimeter. The power source characteristics include low noise, precision, and readback. The multimeter capabilities include high repeatability and low noise. The result is a compact, single-channel, DC parametric tester. In operation, these instruments can act as a voltage source, a current source, a voltage meter, a current meter, and an ohmmeter. Manufacturers of components and modules for the communications, semiconductor, computer, automotive, and medical industries will find the SourceMeter instruments invaluable for a wide range of characterization and production test applications.

Advantages of a Tightly Integrated Instrument

By linking source and measurement circuitry in a single unit, these instruments offer a variety of advantages over systems configured with separate source and measurement instruments. For example, they minimize the time required for test station development, setup, and maintenance, while lowering the overall cost of system ownership. They simplify the test process itself by eliminating many of the complex synchronization and connection issues associated with using multiple instruments. And, their compact half-rack size conserves precious ?real estate? in the test rack or bench.
