Agilent/HP 83485A Optical/Electrical
plug-in
The Agilent 83485A optical/electrical plug-in module incorporates two
measurement channels, one optical and one electrical. Each channel has two
selectable bandwidth settings. In the lower bandwidth modes of 12.4 GHz,
oscilloscope noise performance is excellent, while the 20 GHz mode allows
greater fidelity for high speed signals. The Agilent 83485B optical/electrical
plug-in module incorporates a 30 GHz optical measurement channel and a 40 GHz
electrical channel. The electrical channel also has a reduced-bandwidth setting
of 18 GHz for improved noise performance. The integrated optical channel reduces
mismatch loss variation by eliminating signal distorting cables and connectors
associated with the use of external receivers in order to accurately
characterize optical waveforms. The Instrument at a Glance channel is calibrated
at 1310 nm and 1550 nm to provide both accurate display of the received optical
waveform in optical power units and measurement of the signal's average power.
In addition, the User Cal feature provides for consistent accuracy at any
wavelength between 1200 nm and 1600 nm using a source and power meter. The
Agilent 83485A optical/electrical plug-in module also is a calibrated SONET/SDH
reference receiver that is measured to comply to ITU-TS (formerly CCITT) G.957
and Bellcore GR-253-CORE frequency response requirements for transmitter
compliance testing. By either pressing a front-panel button or issuing an GPIB
command, a fourth-order Bessel-Thomson filter is inserted into or removed from
the measurement channel by a very repeatable Agilent microwave switch. The
switch removes the potential variability and the time wasted by manually
inserting and removing the filter when alternating between high-fidelity
waveform characterization and SONET/SDH compliance testing. The Agilent 83485B
optical/electrical plug-in module includes a reference receiver path, similar to
the Agilent 83485A, for 10 Gb/s transmitter test. Although no industry standards
exist for 10 Gb/s testing, the Agilent 83485B has been designed to meet
anticipated future standards.

The HP 54753A is a two-channel vertical plug-in with a TDR step
generator built into channel one. The bandwidth of the TDR/vertical channel is
18 GHZ. The bandwidth of channel two is 20 GHz. The step generator provides a
200 mV TDR step with a system rise time of <45 ps. The system has the ability
to normalize the TDR by applying a digital filter. Normalization removes errors
caused by loss or imperfect launchers or cables. The rise time of the
normalization filter may be varied to allow you to simulate the edge speeds
found in your system. You may also push the rise time up to 10 ps. Unlike the HP
54120 series, the normalization filter when activated processes every
acquisition so you see changes as the DUT is adjusted. The HP 54753A provides
support for external step generators such as the PicoSecond Pulse Labs 4015C.

Agilent/HP 83493A Single Mode Clock Recovery Module Agilent/HP 83493A Single Mode Clock Recovery Module Rent me for $300 a month
For the 86100A/B/C and 83480A Mainframes
Agilent/HP 83493A clock recovery modules are designed to operate in 86100-series infiniium Digital Communications Analyzers (DCA) and 83480A DCAs. These modules recover clock and data information at standard telecom and datacom rates. The resulting trigger signal is made available to the DCA mainframe via a connector located on the module¿s rear-panel. An external front-panel cable passes the data signal, with some insertion loss, to the receiver module.
Optical clock recovery for 9/125 fibers- Wavelength range: 1200-1600 nm
- Data rates: 0.155/0.622/1.250/2.488/2.500 Gb/s
- PLL bandwidth: 50 to 70 kHz (internal triggering), 4 to 5 MHz (external output)
- Input power: -20 to +3 dBm
If you use an 83493A module in an 83480A DCA, you¿ll notice that, unlike most modules designed to be used with the 83480A, the clock recovery modules do not include Channel keys or menus. Also, there are no GPIB programming commands for these modules when used in an 83480A mainframe. Direct triggering through clock recovery Typically an external timing reference is used to synchronize the oscilloscope to the test signal. In cases where a trigger signal is not available, clock recovery modules are available to derive a timing reference directly from the waveform to be measured. The Agilent 83493A clock recovery modules are available for single-mode optical input signals. 83493A modules have excellent jitter performance to ensure accurate measurements. Each clock recovery module is designed to synchronize to a variety of common transmission rates. The 83493A can derive triggering from optical and electrical signals at any rate up to OC-48. Since the clock recovery system is integrated with the samplers, measurements are achieved with a single instrument connection. Clock recovery loop bandwidth The Agilent/HP clock recovery modules have adjustable loop bandwidth settings. Loop bandwidth is very important in determining the accuracy of your waveform when measuring jitter, as well as testing for compliance. When using recovered clocks for triggering, the amount of jitter observed will depend on the loop bandwidth. As the loop bandwidth increases, more jitter is ¿tracked out¿ by the clock recovery resulting in less observed jitter. ¿Narrow loop bandwidth provides a ¿jitter free¿ system clock to observe a wide jitter spectrum ¿Wide loop bandwidth in some applications is specified by standards for compliance testing. Wide loop bandwidth settings mimic the performance of communications system receivers

New Tektronix
TDS3032B 2 Channel 300 Mhz Oscilloscope
Specifically designed for mainstream electronic designers who require
performance, portability and affordability, the TDS3032B is a 300-MHz,
two-channel digital phosphor oscilloscope. Unique DPO improvements include
waveform update rate over 40% higher at 3600 waveforms per second in Fast
Trigger. It easily captures, stores, displays and analyzes three dimensions of
signal information in real time: amplitude, time and distribution of amplitude
over time. Every design engineer and technician can take advantage of the
tremendous benefits of DPO technology that delivers an improved level of insight
to simplify dealing with dynamic, complex signals. This Tektronix DPO features
updated hardware for more powerful test and measurement applications. With
improved CPU speed, waveform update rate and timebase accuracy as well as
numerous productivity enhancements, the TDS3032B has set a new benchmark for
power in a compact, portable form.
A key added feature is e*Scope¿ Web-based remote control. The TDS3032B is
truly an e*Scope, allowing you to control it over the Internet using a PC.
Simply connect your DSO to a LAN via the built-in Ethernet port, open a browser
window on the PC and enter the scope's IP address in the Address window. The
instrument will respond and allow you to control it from your browser. You can
download advanced e*Scope control software to your PC for a graphical interface
that displays the DSO screen and front panel controls for easy access. Such
e*Scope control gives you simple remote access to your measurement instrument
whether across the room or across the globe. You can check operation of your
prototype running in the lab from your desktop PC, help service technicians
troubleshoot equipment at remote locations or gather data from a colleague's
instrument at another development site. With e*Scope, the TDS3032B extends your
work space from your bench to the whole world.
Many other new enhancements are standard including WaveAlert¿ waveform
anomaly detection, built-in Ethernet port and "Save All" feature. You
also get faster CPU (speed doubled to 50 MHz), timebase accuracy improved 10
times to 20 ppm plus delay and phase measurements between channels.
Two standard modules are provided with your DPO. The TDS3TRG Advanced Trigger
application module adds pulse and logic triggers to the traditional edge and
basic video triggers that are included on the main instrument. Pulse triggers
include width (or glitch), runt and slew rate. Note that the times for these
triggers are selectable from 39.6 sn to 50 s. Logic triggers include pattern and
state triggering but can be used only on combinations of two inputs. TDS3FFT
Fast Fourier Transform application module adds FFT capability for frequency
analysis of waveforms. The magnitude of frequency components can be displayed on
a linear or dB scale.
An intensity graded color display provides information about the frequency of
occurrence of signal amplitudes and widths. This helps the user locate and
characterize waveform anomalies that can be elusive on traditional DSOs. A fast
update rate also makes capturing and displaying infrequent waveforms or waveform
variations easier.

additional plug in channel modules for operation
The Tektronix 11801B oscilloscope is a graph-displaying device ¿
it draws a graph of an electrical signal. In most applications, the graph shows
how signals change over time: the vertical (Y) axis represents voltage and the

is sometimes called the Z axis. The Tektronix 11801B oscilloscope's simple graph
can tell you many things about a signal, such as: the time and voltage values of
a signal, the frequency of an oscillating signal, the ¿moving parts¿ of a
circuit represented by the signal, the frequency with which a particular portion
of the signal is occurring relative to, other portions, whether or not a
malfunctioning component is distorting the signal, how much of a signal is
direct current (DC) or alternating current (AC) and how much of the signal is
noise and whether the noise is changing with time.

Precision Measurements
The 2465/2445 Family oscilloscopes set new norms in measurement precision. With
1% horizontal system accuracy and 2% vertical deflection accuracy, they give you
greater measurement confidence than ever before. On-screen vertical and
horizontal cursors deliver immediate and
accurate results of voltage, time, frequency, ratio, and phase measurements.
Cursors increase accuracy and operator productivity. With them, measurements can
be made quickly, with almost no chance of interpretation errors and no CRT
linearity error. The front panel controlled Channel 1 - Channel 2 delay-matching
adjustment compensates probe and vertical-channel delay differences.
Features
- Auto Setup
- Auto Measure
- Auto PAss / Fail
- Auto Sequence
- HPIB Interface
- Direct Plot Capable
- On Screen Help
Measurement Convenience
Four channels produce clear and complete views to simplify complex measurements.
With the B sweep you can display any portion of the A sweep, including the
A-sweep trigger event. Sweep-delay range is adjustable down to zero delay. This
combination allows easy timing measurements
to be made on highly asymmetric or jittering waveforms. It provides accurate
delayed and ΔTime measurements--from the first pulse on the trace--
and allows the operator to examine the A-trigger event in detail.

DESCRIPTION
The 2465B Oscilloscope allows fast and precise measurements. The instrument
features
¿ 400MHz bandwidth at probe tip
¿ 500 ps/div sweep rate
¿ 2 mV/div vertical sensitivity
¿ 500MHz minimum triggering bandwidth
¿ Four independent channels
¿ 25 Automated Measurements
¿ Front Panel Auto Setup Storage
The 2465B Oscilloscope is a four-channel oscilloscope with a
bandwidth of 400MHz. Sensitivity is 2 mV at 400MHz. Risetime on all channels is
0.875 ns. The instrument has a sweep speed of 500 ps/Div. It has Volts and Time
cursors with on-screen readout. Input is switchable between 1 Mohm and 50 ohm.
On-board capture allows you to digitize, store and recall waveforms or analyze
them on your PC. It also has a 20 ps Time Interval Resolution. Other features
include Auto Setup, Set-Up Sequencing and Cursor After Delay.
The analog display allows gray scaling and persistence, whereby
faster signals appear fainter than slower signals. And when an event only occurs
occasionally in a repetitive signal, the anomaly will fade quicker and look
dimmer than the rest of the waveform, which can provide critical information
when analyzing complex designs. The 2465B also offers a real time display that
responds instantly to changing signal conditions. Since it doesn't have to
acquire and then process signal information before displaying it like a digital
scope, it can trigger on many more waveforms per second. And with a complete
selection of trigger modes, the 2465B can display any signal regardless of its
complexity.

Tektronix TDS 3TMT Telecom Mask Option
TDS 3TMT - Telecommunications Mask Testing Module
When this module is installed in the TDS 3000 Series scope, the TDS 3000
DPO becomes a Pass/Fail test instrument for telecommunications standard
compliance testing.
- ITU-T G.703 (DS0, DS1, E1, Clk Interface, DS2, E2, E3, and DS3 rates)
standards supported
- ANSI T1.102 (DS1, DS1A, DS1C, DS2, DS3, and STS-1 rates) standards
supported
- Custom mask editing also available using WaveStar¿ software for
oscilloscopes.
- Use TDS 3GM (GPIB) or the NEW TDS 3EM (LAN) communication modules to
program the TDS 3000 for automated testing
Typical Application of TMT Module
When testing network line cards in manufacturing, one of the most important
considerations is throughput! The combination of DPO waveform throughput and
hardware assisted mask testing results in breakthrough test speeds for mask
testing on single and multiple channel devices.
Network Line Card Testing using the TDS3000 DPO
While telecommunication network data rates continue to climb with the
emergence of high-speed electrical interfaces such as STM-1E and STS-3 and
optical interfaces such as OC-192, the "bread and butter" of today's
network access equipment still lies in low to medium data rate electrical
interfaces such as ITU-T G.703 E1/E3, ANSI T1.102 DS1/DS3, and custom variations
of these standards. An STM-1E (156 Mb) signal contains enough information to
service 63 E1 (2 Mb) drops in an Add/Drop multiplexer. Low to medium data rates
are also used heavily for wireless access to the network through radio link
equipment.
With the combination of increased channel count and higher volume demand, the
need for high-speed testing in telecommunication equipment manufacturing is
critical. The TDS3000 with the TDS3TMT (Telecom Mask Test) application module
was designed to maximize test throughput for single and multiple channel digital
interface line cards.
Application Modules
With the application module concept, the TDS 3000 Series can be easily
adapted to the needs of the user. These modules are easily installed by the
user. At power on the scope indicates which modules are installed. Currently,
there are five application modules available for the TDS 3000 Series - a
telecommunications mask test module, an FFT module, an advanced trigger module,

Tektronix TDS 3TRG Trigger Module
Advanced Trigger Features
The TDS3TRG Advanced Trigger application module adds logic and
pulse triggering capabilities to your TDS3000 series oscilloscope.
Logic Trigger Features
Logic triggering triggers the oscilloscope when two signals meet
a Boolean logic condition. The advanced trigger module provides pattern and
state logic trigger modes.
Pattern Trigger
Pattern triggering triggers the oscilloscope when two
signals become logically true or false. Basically, the pattern-triggering
feature triggers the oscilloscope from the output of a two-input AND, OR, NAND,
or NOR logic gate. You can specify time constraints and signal threshold levels
as part of the triggering condition. This trigger is useful for digital logic
troubleshooting.
State Trigger
State triggering triggers the oscilloscope when a state
signal is true or false at the time a clock signal transition is true. This
trigger is useful for troubleshooting digital logic synchronous state machines.
Pulse Trigger Features
Pulse triggering triggers the oscilloscope when a signal meets a
timing or threshold condition. The advanced trigger module provides three pulse
trigger modes: pulse width, runt pulse, and slew rate.
Pulse Width
Pulse-width triggering triggers the oscilloscope when a
signal pulse width is less than, greater than, equal to, or not equal to a
specified pulse width. This trigger is useful for digital logic troubleshooting.
Runt Pulse
Runt-pulse triggering triggers the oscilloscope when a
signal pulse is less than a specified threshold level. You can also specify runt
pulse-width parameters. This trigger is useful for troubleshooting
bus-contention problems.
Slew Rate
Slew-rate triggering triggers the oscilloscope when a
signal¿s slew rate (rise or fall time) is less than, greater than, equal to,
or not equal to a specified slew rate. This trigger is useful for
troubleshooting digital bus transceivers, transmission lines, and op-amp
circuits.

TDS3032 2 Channel 300 Mhz Oscilloscope
The TDS 3000 Series of Digital Phosphor Oscilloscopes The TDS 3000
oscilloscopes are the lowest priced, most portable Digital Phosphor
Oscilloscopes (DPOs). Now every design engineer and technician can take
advantage of the tremendous benefits of DPOs. DPOs deliver a new level of
insight that makes dealing with complex signals simple. DPOs display, store, and
analyze, in real-time three dimensions of signal information: amplitude, time,
and distribution of amplitude over time.
Benefits of DPO
DPOs have an intensity graded color display that provides information about
the frequency of occurrence of signal amplitudes and widths. This helps the user
locate and characterize waveform anomalies that can be elusive on traditional
Digital Storage Oscilloscopes. The fast update rate of DPOs also makes it easier
to capture and display infrequent waveforms or waveform variations.
Quick to Learn and Quick to Use
The TDS 3000 Series graphical user interface offers a new operating mode
called QuickMenu. This quick access user interface makes the main oscilloscope
controls accessible with a push of a single button. Included with every scope is
an On-Line Tour disk that runs in the oscilloscope. This disk gives an overview
of the product's operation and capabilities.
Flexible Features for Every Application
The portable form factor allows the instrument to go wherever it is
needed. The Communication and Application Modules enable the instrument to be
configured for specific applications or upgraded without returning it to the
manufacturer. The TekProbe® Level II interface provides power to a range of
application specific accessories.
Application Modules
With the application module concept, the TDS 3000 Series can be easily
adapted to the needs of the user. These modules are easily installed by the
user. At power on the scope indicates which modules are installed. Currently,
there are five application modules available for the TDS 3000 Series - a
telecommunications mask test module, an FFT module, an advanced trigger module,
a 601 digital video module and an extended video module. In addition, there are
three communication modules available - a 10Base-T LAN/RS-232 module, a
GPIB/RS-232 module and a VGA/RS-232 module. Centronics port is standard.
Remote Control
A key added feature is e*Scope¿ Web-based remote control. The TDS3052B is
truly an e*Scope, allowing you to control it over the Internet using a PC.

The TDS3000B Series of Digital Phosphor Oscilloscopes Provides Unmatched
Performance and Portability at an Affordable Price
The TDS3052B packs the power of a DPO, digital real-time (DRT) sampling
technology, WaveAlert waveform anomaly detection, OpenChoice documentation and
analysis solutions, and five application-specific modules into a lightweight,
battery-capable design.
A DPO Provides a Greater Level of Insight into Complex Signals
The TDS3052B Series DPO delivers 3,600 wfms/s continuous waveform capture
rate to capture glitches and infrequent events three times faster than
comparable oscilloscopes. Some oscilloscope vendors claim high waveform capture
rates for short bursts of time, but only DPOs can deliver these fast waveform
capture rates on a continuous basis ¿ saving minutes, hours, or even days by
quickly revealing the nature of faults so advanced triggers can be applied to
isolate them.
In addition, the TDS3052B's DPO's real-time intensity grading highlights the
details about the "history" of a signal's activity, making it easier
to understand the characteristics of the waveforms you've captured.

The TDS5052B Series offers the industry¿s first easily
customizable oscilloscope user interface. MyScope control windows is a
revolutionary new feature that allows you to build your own control windows with
only the controls, features, and capabilities that you care about and are
important in your job. For the first time, you can pull all the functionality
you need from all the various parts of the oscilloscope into one control window,
effectively creating your own personalized ¿toolbox¿ of oscilloscope features.
No longer do you need to search through menus for features or re-learn how to
drive the oscilloscope after a break from the lab. MyScope control windows
enable you to spend your valuable time focused on the task at hand rather than
navigating menus on your oscilloscope. And creating these custom control windows
isn¿t a long drawn-out or complex process. They are easily created in a matter
of minutes using a simple, visual, drag and drop process. Once created, these
custom control windows are easily accessed through a dedicated MyScope button
and menu selection on the oscilloscope button/menu bar, just like any other
control window. You can make an unlimited number of custom control windows,
enabling each person who uses the oscilloscope, in a shared environment, to have
their own unique control window. Since the control windows are stored as files
on the hard drive, they can easily be transferred to other TDS5000B Series
oscilloscopes, or they can even be e-mailed to a co-worker around the world when
the need arises.
MyScope control windows will benefit all oscilloscope users,
from eliminating the ramp-up time that many face when returning to the lab after
not using an oscilloscope for a while, to the power user who can now operate far
more efficiently. Everything you need is found in one control window rather than
having to constantly navigate through menu after menu to repeat similar tasks.

The TDS784D Digital Phosphor Oscilloscope Digital Phosphor
Oscilloscopes deliver a level of insight that makes dealing with complex signals
elementary. DPOs capture, store, display and analyze, in real time, three
dimensions of signal information: amplitude, time and distribution of amplitude
over time. The benefit of this third dimension of information is an
interpretation of the signal dynamics, including instantaneous changes and the
frequency of occurrence displayed in the form of quantitative intensity
information. The resulting information-rich display enables the user's eye to
integrate the subtle patterns and variations of actual signal behavior. Easy to
Learn and Easy to Use Extensive user interface design has made the TDS784D truly
intuitive to operate. Its familiar front panel layout offers dedicated vertical,
horizontal and trigger controls. A graphical user interface with over 200 icons
helps facilitate understanding and use of the advanced features. A color monitor
helps rapidly distinguish between multiple waveforms and measurements. Online
help provides a convenient built-in reference manual. High Fidelity Signal
Acquisition The high waveform capture rate of the TDS784D DPO, together with its
high bandwidth and sample rate, delivers instantaneous signal feedback to show
the true signals that other scopes may be missing. The DPO acquisition acquires
over 1,000 times more data than traditional DSOs, allowing the capture of
complex signals, reducing debugging times from hours to seconds. Channels can be
transparently combined to achieve higher sample rates and longer record lengths.
The record length can be optionally increased to 8 M points, providing a
high-resolution representation of the signal over a long period of time. The
TDS784D also provides wide dynamic range, flat response, fast overdrive
recovery, calibrated DC offset, 1 mV/div sensitivity, 1 ns peak detect and
internal calibration. Powerful and Flexible Triggering In addition to basic
triggering such as edge and pulse-width, this digital phosphor oscilloscope has
several trigger modes tailored for specific design and debug applications. Logic
and pulse triggers, including setup/hold, glitch, slew rate and timeout
triggers, capture hard-to-catch digital design problems. The optional video
trigger provides line and field selection for NTSC, PAL and HDTV standards. The
optional communications trigger capability addresses needs to acquire a wide
variety of AMI, CMI, NRZ and Ethernet communication signals.
