Agilent/HP 83485A Optical/Electrical
plug-in
The Agilent 83485A optical/electrical plug-in module incorporates two
measurement channels, one optical and one electrical. Each channel has two
selectable bandwidth settings. In the lower bandwidth modes of 12.4 GHz,
oscilloscope noise performance is excellent, while the 20 GHz mode allows
greater fidelity for high speed signals. The Agilent 83485B optical/electrical
plug-in module incorporates a 30 GHz optical measurement channel and a 40 GHz
electrical channel. The electrical channel also has a reduced-bandwidth setting
of 18 GHz for improved noise performance. The integrated optical channel reduces
mismatch loss variation by eliminating signal distorting cables and connectors
associated with the use of external receivers in order to accurately
characterize optical waveforms. The Instrument at a Glance channel is calibrated
at 1310 nm and 1550 nm to provide both accurate display of the received optical
waveform in optical power units and measurement of the signal's average power.
In addition, the User Cal feature provides for consistent accuracy at any
wavelength between 1200 nm and 1600 nm using a source and power meter. The
Agilent 83485A optical/electrical plug-in module also is a calibrated SONET/SDH
reference receiver that is measured to comply to ITU-TS (formerly CCITT) G.957
and Bellcore GR-253-CORE frequency response requirements for transmitter
compliance testing. By either pressing a front-panel button or issuing an GPIB
command, a fourth-order Bessel-Thomson filter is inserted into or removed from
the measurement channel by a very repeatable Agilent microwave switch. The
switch removes the potential variability and the time wasted by manually
inserting and removing the filter when alternating between high-fidelity
waveform characterization and SONET/SDH compliance testing. The Agilent 83485B
optical/electrical plug-in module includes a reference receiver path, similar to
the Agilent 83485A, for 10 Gb/s transmitter test. Although no industry standards
exist for 10 Gb/s testing, the Agilent 83485B has been designed to meet
anticipated future standards.

The HP 54753A is a two-channel vertical plug-in with a TDR step
generator built into channel one. The bandwidth of the TDR/vertical channel is
18 GHZ. The bandwidth of channel two is 20 GHz. The step generator provides a
200 mV TDR step with a system rise time of <45 ps. The system has the ability
to normalize the TDR by applying a digital filter. Normalization removes errors
caused by loss or imperfect launchers or cables. The rise time of the
normalization filter may be varied to allow you to simulate the edge speeds
found in your system. You may also push the rise time up to 10 ps. Unlike the HP
54120 series, the normalization filter when activated processes every
acquisition so you see changes as the DUT is adjusted. The HP 54753A provides
support for external step generators such as the PicoSecond Pulse Labs 4015C.

Agilent/HP 83485B Optical/Electrical plug-in
with option
- Option 040 = 9953 Mb/s Fourth Order filter
The 83485B Optical / Electrical Plug-in features an Optical Channel,
which is unamplified 980 nm -1625 nm Single Mode (SM), 30GHz BW, Sensitivity: -8
dBm and an Electrical Channel, which is 18GHz and 40GHz BW , 2.4 mm connectors.
The unit is a plug-in module for the 83480A Digital Communications Analyzer.
The Agilent/HP 83485B features two measurement channels, one optical,
the second electrical. Both channels have selectable bandwidth settings for
selecting between lowest oscilloscope noise and highest bandwidth (over 30GHz)
for greater measurement fidelity on high-speed signals.
The integrated optical channel eliminates distortion caused by cables and
connectors associated with the use of external receivers in order to accurately
characterize optical waveforms. The optical channels are calibrated at 1310nm
and 1550 nm to provide both a built-in power meter and accurate display of the
received optical waveform in microwatts.
The electrical channel may be used to perform measurements on tributary
signals, transmitter modulation signals, to evaluate receiver performance in
transceiver testing, for measurements with an external optical receiver, or for
general purpose measurements.

Agilent/HP 83493A Single Mode Clock Recovery Module Agilent/HP 83493A Single Mode Clock Recovery Module Rent me for $300 a month
For the 86100A/B/C and 83480A Mainframes
Agilent/HP 83493A clock recovery modules are designed to operate in 86100-series infiniium Digital Communications Analyzers (DCA) and 83480A DCAs. These modules recover clock and data information at standard telecom and datacom rates. The resulting trigger signal is made available to the DCA mainframe via a connector located on the module?s rear-panel. An external front-panel cable passes the data signal, with some insertion loss, to the receiver module.
Optical clock recovery for 9/125 fibers- Wavelength range: 1200-1600 nm
- Data rates: 0.155/0.622/1.250/2.488/2.500 Gb/s
- PLL bandwidth: 50 to 70 kHz (internal triggering), 4 to 5 MHz (external output)
- Input power: -20 to +3 dBm
If you use an 83493A module in an 83480A DCA, you?ll notice that, unlike most modules designed to be used with the 83480A, the clock recovery modules do not include Channel keys or menus. Also, there are no GPIB programming commands for these modules when used in an 83480A mainframe. Direct triggering through clock recovery Typically an external timing reference is used to synchronize the oscilloscope to the test signal. In cases where a trigger signal is not available, clock recovery modules are available to derive a timing reference directly from the waveform to be measured. The Agilent 83493A clock recovery modules are available for single-mode optical input signals. 83493A modules have excellent jitter performance to ensure accurate measurements. Each clock recovery module is designed to synchronize to a variety of common transmission rates. The 83493A can derive triggering from optical and electrical signals at any rate up to OC-48. Since the clock recovery system is integrated with the samplers, measurements are achieved with a single instrument connection. Clock recovery loop bandwidth The Agilent/HP clock recovery modules have adjustable loop bandwidth settings. Loop bandwidth is very important in determining the accuracy of your waveform when measuring jitter, as well as testing for compliance. When using recovered clocks for triggering, the amount of jitter observed will depend on the loop bandwidth. As the loop bandwidth increases, more jitter is ?tracked out? by the clock recovery resulting in less observed jitter. ?Narrow loop bandwidth provides a ?jitter free? system clock to observe a wide jitter spectrum ?Wide loop bandwidth in some applications is specified by standards for compliance testing. Wide loop bandwidth settings mimic the performance of communications system receivers

TDS3032B 2 Channel 300 Mhz Oscilloscope
Specifically designed for mainstream electronic designers who require
performance, portability and affordability, the TDS3032B is a 300-MHz,
two-channel digital phosphor oscilloscope. Unique DPO improvements include
waveform update rate over 40% higher at 3600 waveforms per second in Fast
Trigger. It easily captures, stores, displays and analyzes three dimensions of
signal information in real time: amplitude, time and distribution of amplitude
over time. Every design engineer and technician can take advantage of the
tremendous benefits of DPO technology that delivers an improved level of insight
to simplify dealing with dynamic, complex signals. This Tektronix DPO features
updated hardware for more powerful test and measurement applications. With
improved CPU speed, waveform update rate and timebase accuracy as well as
numerous productivity enhancements, the TDS3032B has set a new benchmark for
power in a compact, portable form.
A key added feature is e*Scope? Web-based remote control. The TDS3032B is
truly an e*Scope, allowing you to control it over the Internet using a PC.
Simply connect your DSO to a LAN via the built-in Ethernet port, open a browser
window on the PC and enter the scope's IP address in the Address window. The
instrument will respond and allow you to control it from your browser. You can
download advanced e*Scope control software to your PC for a graphical interface
that displays the DSO screen and front panel controls for easy access. Such
e*Scope control gives you simple remote access to your measurement instrument
whether across the room or across the globe. You can check operation of your
prototype running in the lab from your desktop PC, help service technicians
troubleshoot equipment at remote locations or gather data from a colleague's
instrument at another development site. With e*Scope, the TDS3032B extends your
work space from your bench to the whole world.
Many other new enhancements are standard including WaveAlert? waveform
anomaly detection, built-in Ethernet port and "Save All" feature. You
also get faster CPU (speed doubled to 50 MHz), timebase accuracy improved 10
times to 20 ppm plus delay and phase measurements between channels.
Two standard modules are provided with your DPO. The TDS3TRG Advanced Trigger
application module adds pulse and logic triggers to the traditional edge and
basic video triggers that are included on the main instrument. Pulse triggers
include width (or glitch), runt and slew rate. Note that the times for these
triggers are selectable from 39.6 sn to 50 s. Logic triggers include pattern and
state triggering but can be used only on combinations of two inputs. TDS3FFT
Fast Fourier Transform application module adds FFT capability for frequency
analysis of waveforms. The magnitude of frequency components can be displayed on
a linear or dB scale.
An intensity graded color display provides information about the frequency of
occurrence of signal amplitudes and widths. This helps the user locate and
characterize waveform anomalies that can be elusive on traditional DSOs. A fast
update rate also makes capturing and displaying infrequent waveforms or waveform
variations easier.
