  Locating problems in your network is especially important if the lines are leased and finger-pointing issues need to be resolved. By verifying accurate transmission to the base transceiver station or call tower, the technician can sectionalize troubles and pinpoint RF problems for your base station to mobile devices. Timing problems in networks feeding the base transceiver stations can cause intermittent errors on DS1, DS3, or ATM interfaces. Left unchecked, these problems can degrade service to the customer, delay new service turn-up or lead to a total crash of the cell site. Although the probability of a timing related error may seem low, the relatively high cost of troubleshooting and fixing these problems justify enhancing conventional test methods to eliminate timing errors.

DS1 Analysis

Verify T1 network performance with the 2310¿s integrated BER test and with signal, alarm, and timing tests. A wide range of stress test patterns combined with bi-directional monitoring enable technicians to identify and sectionalize circuit problems and quickly qualify circuits for service acceptance. Users can perform VF analysis of voice trunks with the 2310¿s VF levels and tones measurement support. The drop-and-insert test feature qualifies a DS0 channel while the T1 circuit remains in service. The 2310 isolates sources of timing errors by using external bits clock input to identify network synchronization problems. Access to the DS1 signal is provided from the T1 interface or from the DS1 signal embedded in a DS3, STS-1, OC-3, OC-12, or OC-48 circuit.

With the Acterna TestPad 2000 DSL Broadband Services Module, tier one, tier two, and tier three service technicians can efficiently and effectively commission,  troubleshoot, and maintain DSL service across the entire provider network. Rugged, lightweight, and compact, the DSL Module is designed for highly mobile technicians who must test wherever the network goes. Its intuitive GUI and a reduced-glare touch screen make it easy for technicians to operate and view testing results. Combined with the Acterna TestPad 2000 Copper Analyzer Module, the DSL Module provides a complete solution for DSL service commissioning on the local loop. And for further network testing, the DSL Module, when used in conjunction with the Acterna TestPad 2000 SONET Field Services Module, validates DSLAM mappings.To commission a customer¿s DSL service, a provider must ensure that all aspects of the connection are functioning, from the CPE through the network and to the ISP. Failure of any transport, network, or service layer function (protocol) may cause the service to fail. It is not enough to check synchronization at the network interface device (NID) and assume the service is okay. The DSL Module tests the customer¿s entire service, not just DSL sync, which eliminates the need for a technician to return at another time to troubleshoot the network connection and CPE.

DSL provides a high-speed link between the provider¿s high-speed network and the customer¿s CPE. Although the network is able to support high-speed digital services, such as DSL, dial-up modem service has traditionally caused a bottleneck on the local loop. Since DSL promotes the use of high-speed services and applications, it is critical to maintain and verify DSL operation and rates over the local loop. The DSL Module lets technicians quickly and easily confirm DSL physical layer performance by emulating DSL transceiverunit modems. In this mode, the DSL Module verifies the actual DSL rate for the current connection and the connection¿s maximum possible rate. It checks the signal-to-noise margin to evaluate the DSL signal strength over the loop, pointing to future performance capabilities or limitations. Technicians can synchronize the DSL Module at different points on the loop to segment faults on the copper loop.

The DSL Module¿s data rate and line rate results verify slow service. By looking at the ¿bits per tone¿ measurement and graphics, technicians can determine if the disturbers are from sources transmitting T1, E1, or HDSL and take corrective action. In addition, the DSL Module indicates excessive noise margins, which identify the presence of crosstalk.

DS1 physical layer testing

   Whether provisioning or troubleshooting T1 service, the first step is to verify proper circuit operation throughout the networkby testing the physical layer. Typical requirements include BER testing and signal, alarm, and timing tests to ensure proper performance of T1 network connections. BER testing is typically conducted from the customer premises at an NIU or HTU-R. To identify and sectionalize circuit problems from network equipment faults, the FST-2209 monitors and performs BER testing in both directions of a circuit simultaneously. The use of standard or user-programmable loop codes to loopback network equipment allows technicians to further sectionalize network troubles. What is the MMF- 4355?

The WWG MMF-4350 series is a series of test systems for Point-of-Sales and filter service requirements, providing fast Go/NoGo decisions. Even nontechnical persons can tell within seconds whether the mobile phone is operating correctly. Depending on the model of the test set, AMPS, CDMA, TDMA as well as their 1900 MHz bands (PCS) mobile phones can be tested. All necessary parameters and functions of the mobile phone are checked by simulating real network conditions. The test results can be printed and handed to the customer. All it takes is a precise measurement with a WWG MMF-4355 to give the mobile phone user proof of the phone¿s performance. When no fault can be found, the reason for dropped calls needs to be investigated with the customer. If there is for example a network coverage problem around his home area a loaner phone would fail as well.

Reduce shipment costs

Reducing the amount of NFFs (No Fault Found Mobiles) saves money. These NFFs are shipped needlessly to repair centers and then back to the customer. Although mobile phone users are becoming more and more familiar with the technology, up to 50(!) per cent of all mobiles that are stated to be faulty by the user are not really broken. Nevertheless, they are currently being replaced.

Overview

   This combination port interface and faceplate provides a SONET OC-3c or SDH STM-1 physical connection for AX/4000 Generator, Generator/Analyzer and ATM Network Impairment Emulator test modules. This interface operates at 155.52 Mbps using a 1310 nm single mode optical format with SC connectors.

AX/4000 Installation

   The port interface plugs directly into mating connectors on the AX/4000 test module. Two screws attach the faceplate to the front of a mainframe or portable chassis. The test module provides power to the port interface.

Transmit and Receive Connector

   The port interface has a dual SC connector. The TRANSMIT portion is for laser output and the RECEIVE portion is for laser input.

Transmit Clock Source

   The port interface can receive its transmit timing from a built-in crystal oscillator (INT), from the clock recovered from received data (LOOP) or from an external source via the EXT CLOCK IN connector (EXT).

External Clock In Connector

   The SMA connector labeled EXT CLOCK IN is for an external 155.52 MHz transmit timing signal.

LED Indicators

   The faceplate has eight LED indicators. Refer to the faceplate photo for a description of each LED function.

Software Control

   The AX/4000 Windows®¿based controller software provides a graphical interface for setting up the port interface, triggering momentary and continuous alarms, and for viewing port statistics. See the other side of this sheet for a list of software controlled functions. Software functions for controlling this port interface are also available in the AX/4000 C Function Library. This library allows C programmers to create their own AX/4000 test applications on a variety of platforms.

Spirent SX Data Link Simulators

   The Spirent SX Data Link Simulators create the same delay and error characteristics caused by long distance terrestrial and satellite data links. By providing very realistic simulations of actual network conditions, they allow engineers to stress test new equipment and network applications under repeatable and controllable conditions. Utilizing dual-channel, full-duplex operation, these simulators provide bi-directional testing with programmable delays, random bit errors and burst errors. Multiple delay and error events can be programmed into complex sequences to simulate a wide variety of chronic and periodic conditions or events such as peak traffic times and equipment overloads. Typical simulator applications include testing the operation, performance and reliability of multiplexers, bridges, encrypters, network applications and other communications hardware and software. When used for link simulation, these simulators physically connect directly between two pieces of equipment to replace conventional data links such as satellite connections, WANs or telephone networks. They can also be used in line with a real data link to add additional delays or errors or to simulate the effects of adding an additional link to the system.

Full-Duplex Operation

   Each simulator has two separate channels to simulate the bi-directional characteristics of a full-duplex data link.Each channel operates independently and has both transmit and receive functions. The SX/13 model also permit different delay and error settings for each direction of the full-duplex data stream. Bypass and loopback modes can be selected whenever standard bi-directional flow is not required.

Delay Generator

   Each channel uses a variable length first-in-first-out delay buffer with user-selectable delay and data rate parameters. These parameters set the length of this buffer  which in turn determines the amount of time it takes data to pass through each channel. The maximum delay length depends on the data rate (lower data rates permit longer maximum delays). At the lower rates, delays up to 9,999 ms (just under 10 seconds) are possible. Delays can be specified in milliseconds or bits depending on the measurement requirements of the test.

Error Generation

   Each channel has a and a The Random Error Generator simulates background errors caused by Gaussian noise and is active during gaps between error bursts. Random error rates can range from 1 x 10-9 to 1 error per bit for the SX/12 models or from 1 x 10-12 to 1 error per bit for the SX/13. The Random Error Generator normally injects logical errors. However, the SX/13 can also be set to inject BPVs (Bipolar Violations) when bipolar interfaces such as DS1 are used.

   Receiver testing is done using an accurate 0.3 GMSK source. The wide dynamic range allows for low-level sensitivity measurements and high power tests to check for receiver saturation. Mobile receiver sensitivity is measured by making bit-error-rate measurements on Class Ia, Ib and II bits in either raw or residual form.

   The Model 404 is a hand-held combination T1 Digital, Datacom and Wideband Test Set for the telecom field technician. It is a digital, full function 1.544Mbps T1/Datacom Tester, as well as a full function analog transmission impairment tester. Uniquely designed with a touch screen graphical user interface for extreme ease of use. It is about the size of a small telephone book, weighs approximately 3-1/2 lbs. and is powered by an internal rechargeable NiMH battery pack with five to six hours of battery life. It comes standard with a 115/230 VAC adapter or an optional 12 VDC cigarette lighter adapter. Analog and DS0 tests meet IEEE standards.

   The digital test functionality of the Model 404 allows a wide range of bit error testing on framed or unframed 1.544Mbps T1 circuits, and Datacom circuits, including V.35, RS232 and EIA530. As an Analog Tester, the unit provides a wide variety of industry standard measurements to accomplish transmission impairment testing on 2- or 4-wire dedicated or dial-up analog circuits. With the Enhanced Digital option, a T1 telephone is added with dial, talk & listen capability on any user selected T1 voice channel. The 400kHz bandwidth of the instrument makes it ideal for qualifying metallic digital circuits which use an analog carrier such as ISDN BRI ("U" interface) and 4-Wire HDSL circuits. The unit, of course, is also ideal for qualifying voice circuits, which often will carry data modem and fax modem signals.

The Model 404 is ideally suited for the field technician who must relate to all types of digital and analog circuits. Datacom testing provides for emulating either the DTE or the DCE while sending patterns and injecting errors. If the T1 line is driven by HDSL technology, the wire itself can be tested using wideband analog testing to 400 kHz, and the repeaters can be tested with the extensive BERT capabilities.

As a Digital Tester two TX/RX ports are provided in order to allow bi-directional drop and insert testing. The unit can terminate the line (simultaneous pattern generation and pattern measurement) or monitor the line for BERT patterns, ABCD bit status, and SLC 96 alarm maintenance and message decode. The Model 404 is compatible with unframed PCM, as well as D4 and ESF framing with B8ZS or AMI encoding.

As a Datacom Tester the extensive pattern generation and detection and the G.821 bit error rate reporting are available for V.35, V.36, RS232 and EIA530 interface testing. The Model 404 acts as a synchronous DTE or DCE device and uses either the DCE clock or its internal clock to generate and verify patterns at speeds ranging from 300 BP/S to 1.544Mbps.

The Model 404 is able to perform AutoTesting with the Ameritec Model AM440 Remote Test Partner¿. The Model 404 is able to test analog measurements automatically with the AM440 placed at the other end of the wire.

What is the difference between the AM5XT-200 and the AM5EXT-200?

The AM5¿s perform most standard tests, worldwide. The AM5XT-200 meets all North American IEEE 743-1984 standards. The AM5eXT-200 meets international ITU standards and is CE approved for use in the European Community.

The Ameritec AM5eXT performs qualification tests on circuits carrying voice band, HDSL, high quality audio, DDS to 64 kbps, Basic Rate ISDN and other services using up to a 200 kHz bandwidth.

The Ameritec Model AM5eXT-200 is a wideband transmission test set. It is specifically engineered for peak performance for use in the field and in the lab. This easy to use unit offers a full range of transmission impairment measurements and a highly versatile signal generator in a single, compact, portable unit. About the size of a telephone directory, this test instrument fits conveniently on a bench top for use as a laboratory unit or can be rack mounted.

The Ameritec AM5eXT-200 can perform qualification tests on circuits carrying voice band, high quality audio and Basic Rate ISDN and HDSL or other services using up to 200 kHz bandwidth. It has the ability to simultaneously send signals and measure received signals. Individual selection of "send and receive terminations" and "On Hook/Off Hook DC Hold" circuits are provided.

The user has 100% digital control of all measure, filter, send, and termination functions. It is equipped with dialing capability and by front panel binding posts for a linemans test set. With the addition of an optional rechargeable internal battery pack and soft carrying case, the AM5eXT-200 can be utilized as a field tester with a battery life of up to six hours of uninterrupted use. This unit conforms to ITU standards and is CE approved for use in the European Community.

The technician utilizes the front panel with simple selection keys for all measure, filter, send and termination functions. The front panel is divided into easy to locate and easy to read areas for each of the major instrument functions. The selected configuration can easily be viewed at a glance. All measurements are fully auto ranging and may be viewed on the bright LED display. Designed with a built-in selectable 2.16 uf termination in series with the selected impedance. A built-in speaker allows the operator to audibly monitor either the send or receive. With an operating bandwidth to 200 kHz, the Sweep function can be programmed to automatically perform tests across the 20 kHz to 200 kHz bandwidth, while simultaneously measuring level and frequency across the same bandwidth.

       The MT8802A was designed to support the test needs of the manufacturing, R&D and maintenance markets. All major radio communication systems in the world, including IS-95, GSM/DCS1800/PCS1900, IS-136A, AMPS/NAMPS, PDC, and PHS, can be evaluated using just one MT8802A Radio Communication Analyzer, covering the 300 kHz to 3 GHz frequency band in one hardware platform, and the dedicated measurement software options. This tester supports Service Options 1, 2 and 9 for IS-95 and J-Std-008 as well as call processing and sensitivity testing using the loopback method for GSM/DCS1800/PCS1900 and IS-136A. The call processing function, transmission/reception measurement functions, analog measurement function, and thermocouple power meter are provided as standard features. LINE PARAMETRICS TESTING IS AVAILABLE AS AN ADD-ON OPTION

The Line Paramaterics Testing option (Option 40) is used to qualify copper lines used in voice frequency service or digital service applications by measuring the electrical and physical characteristics of the line. The option allows the technician to make line voltage measurements and to analyze the line by measuring electrical characteristics, determining length, and counting load coils. The option includes a time domain reflectometer (TDR) function to locate impedance changes in the line that may indicate physical damage, and a spectrum analyzer function to help detect and identify noise sources that may be causing interference at different point in the T1 bandwidth. Also included are tests to perform noise measurements and to measure the level and frequency of signals present on the line.

   The MZ-1 is designed to provide a voice paging connection between a telephone system and a voice paging/background music system. It.s appropriate for a wide variety of paging applications, from a simple single-zone system, to a specialized multi-zone implementation. Extensive capabilities provide a level of features and performance not found in other .page adapters.. The MZ-1 is simply an excellent product.

   Paging installations are notorious for requiring .special. configurations. With the MZ-1.s host of features, you.ll achieve a customized installation without the hassles of adding extra equipment or wiring. Larger installations, such as airports or medical centers, are easily accomplished using multiple MZ-1s. The override input connections allow an installer to easily create a multi-zone system. For security-conscious facilities, an unlimited number of page override priority levels are possible.

   The MZ-1 pays special attention to maintaining audio quality, while actually enhancing it in some cases. A special circuit eliminates the extraneous clicks and pops commonly associated with page adapters. The MZ-1 smoothly routes page, background music, and night tone audio. An audio compressor circuit automatically adjusts the level of the page audio to ensure that all pages are intelligible. Differences in voice level will not interfere with page quality. A background music source can be connected with a loudness compensation circuit to improve the sound. The audio output is designed to directly connect to most audio amplifiers and/or amplified speakers. The output circuit utilizes a transformer, helping to minimize the chance of hum and noise pickup. Many PBX systems provide a 20Hz ringing signal in the form of a universal night answer (UNA) line. This UNA line can be connected to the MZ-1.s integral night tone generator, providing an audio alert over the paging system. In addition to connecting a ringing signal, a contact closure or logic signal can activate night tone. Controls allow adjustment of the night tone pitch and level. The MZ-1 provides a general-purpose relay contact. It can serve a .page enable. contact closure when connected to an audio amplifier.

   A short tone is sent to the person making a page each time the MZ-1 is accessed. This provides a confirmation that the paging system was accessed. An envelope  modified version of this tone can also be sent to the paging system if a .pre-page. alert tone is desired. A control allows the alert tone level to be adjusted.

   The MZ-1 is self-contained and ready to wall mount. A UL-listed 24Vac transformer is included to provide power. Four LED indicator lights provide assistance during installation, operation, and maintenance.

The Wireless Measurement System can deliver detailed system analysis and signal level positioning data.It can provide detailed maps and diagrams verifying propagation coverage (or lack thereof) in specific portions of a system - or - the system as a whole. Using a specially equipped vehicle, radio signal strengths can be measured and logged using DGPS (Differential Global Positioning Satellites) receivers linked to lap-top computers. This measurement system can be set for signal level sampling at designed time intervals or may be operated in the manual mode for verification at  specified locations - or - a combination of both.

After completion of the physical drive testing, logged information can be exported / imported to desk-top application computers for display and visual analysis. Full reports, along with explanations and recommendations, can then be generated in a clear, concise and understandable format for customer presentation. 

This type of system testing differs from those tests performed using hand-held portable radios by providing a more stable receiver platform that eliminates common measurement problems such as; Body position to the radio; Radio / Antenna tilt; Height above ground; Portable antennas with non-verified calibration; Human error and or copy mistakes.

SMARTBITS TEST SYSTEM

   The Spirent/Netcom SmartBits test system is a network and equipment analyzer that generates network traffic, as well as providing analysis of the data. The SmartBits test system includes a chassis and a series of SmartCards, each of which provides one independent Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, ATM, VG Any LAN, or Token Ring port. Chassis sizes vary, but the standard one holds up to 20 SmartCards chassis that can be daisy-chained together to provide up to 80 ports for true system testing. These pieces of industrial-strength equipment enable network managers to test networks in high-traffic situations and at more granular port-based or mesh configurations. The Spirent/Netcom SmartBits test system comes with a variety of software to perform network and equipment analysis. Smart Applications is a Windows-based application that is used to determine throughput, packet loss, latency, and back-to-back performance test under full load. The SmartLib Programming Library allows for developers to program in Visual Basic, C, or C++ to add new function ability to the SmartBits system. SmartWindow is another Windows-based software package that allows the user to configure the transmission, triggers, and monitoring of each SmartCard either individually or in groups and to perform tests between any port or group of ports quickly and accurately. In a nutshell, the SmartBits system feeds massive amounts of data into a system or piece of equipment, measuring the output of the tested device or network for performance.

   Used with the Fireberd 6000 series to add E1 measurement. The TTC/Acterna 41800 Data Interface allows the Fireberd mainframe to test communications equipment and systems that comply with CCITT G.703, G.704, G.732, 2048 kbps, and Nx64 kbps signal recommendations for framed or unframed data. The interface allows any selection of Nx64 kbps timeslots within the 2.048 Mbps signal to be accessed for bit error analysis. This allows real-time analysis of any number of timeslots (up to 30 or 31, depending on the selected multiframing).

Description


2048M/Nx64 E1 Interface complies with CCITT Recommendations G.703, G.704, G.732, G.821, G.823, O.161 and O.171 for framed or unframed data.
